The Gospel of John

John wrote to impress upon the reader that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, sent by the Father to take away the sins of the world.  This is a book that speaks clearly about Jesus' love and forgiveness and the promise of eternal life for those who believe in Jesus and His Father who sent Him.

Jesus came to take away the sins of the world

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."
John 1:29

He died on the cross paying the price for our sins

Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.  John 19:16-18

What must you do to have eternal life?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16

What happens the moment you believe in Jesus Christ?

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.  John 5:24

What relationship do you now enjoy by believing in Christ?

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.  John 1:12

What happens to those who don’t believe in Christ?

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.  John 3:36

Jesus describes Himself

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  John 8:12

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.  John 6:35

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.  John 10:9

Jesus will provide a helper

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.  John 14:2
